...The Freedom, The Experience...

Footie, work and vrooooooooem! Australian Formula 1 Grandprix!

Yep, the interview at the hostel was good. I got the job! So I start working as Nightsecurity and Cleaner for a few nights a week in the best hostel in Melbourne. I planned to stay at my new hostel, but within 1 hour I already found a big house around the corner to live. 1 house for mostly guys and one house for the girls...guess which house was cleaner... It's just like one big dirty frathouse. It's a good vibe in this house, guitars everywhere, drinking every night, movies all day long and even some Dutchies from my hometown Rotterdam.

On Fridaynight it was time for the Oz experience of AFL, locally known as 'Footie'. The match was between Geelong and Essendon. In the big MCG Stadium in Melbourne. We went with a big group from the hostel. What a game! I like it a lot, so much agression, everything seems to be allowed and players can't be send out of the field. Fast and many scores. You could sit almost anywhere in the stadium if you wanted. But be sure to get a blue ticket when you walk outside during the smoke break, I forgot one and they didn't let me in anymore. Well, as in Holland I always find a way to get in, even without a ticket :-) So 4 quarters of 30 minutes, Geelong kicked ass! The last 2 quarters I was there with a Ozzie family and they explained most things. Afterwards Jason and me bought some beers and Strongbows at the 24hour bottleshop for a party in the courtyard.

Saturday was my first paid work in a long time. Just replied on a add on Gumtree. I had to make some dogfences for Phils' little dogs. Easy job, getting some extra tan in the sun. 20 bucks per hour is okay.

And then, Sunday....VROOOOOOOOOOOEM! Oh yeah! It was 08:00 in the morning and the cars started testriding early, you could even hear them loudly in our house! So I went with my Dutch friend Wendy to the supermarket to buy some food and drinks for today and entered the gates at 10 in the morning. We picked a good spot in the last turn before the finish. The Ozzies next to us rented a screen for 50 bucks so we could see everything we missed and reversals. All sorts of races today, V8, Formula 5000, F1 and more. Airplaine shows and lot's of other things in Albert Park. And just when the race started at 17:00 it started to rain...time for some crashes. I expected Webber to win, but he fucked up several times, Button won the race. The race was not as spectecular as the demonstrations we see every year in Rotterdam. You are not that close to the cars, there are too many fences in front of you and where are the stunts? After the last lap I was so excited, we climbed over the fences and many people were running over the track to the finish to see the cars and the winners...WHAT A RUSH! I was running around with a start/finish flag, shooting pictures on Pole Position and just enjoying this experience...the last time F1 in Melbourne and we are here!
